I had never heard of Liberon products before reading about them on The Grumble. We did get one jar of the stuff. It's nice, but quite honestly, the smell bothers me. It's so cloying.

For small touch ups we've been using Rub n Buff. It might be a petrochemical product, but it smells yummy (much better than Unseal)...forget that. I think I'm getting sensitized to it, because it's starting to make me feel icky, too.

What's your metallic paint touch up product of choice? Maybe there's something else out there.

I think I like the looks of the Liberon creme better, but the smell (is it turpentine?)...gotta get past it.

Jana, type in Rub 'n Buff in the Search. There's a nice long thread there.

We use Liberon almost exclusively for small touch-up jobs and some large ones. Forget the turpentine, buy yourself a respirator or turn on a fan and use paint thinner. Rub and Buff works but the color are not al blendable as are the Liberon waxes.

You can blend and add color to color with the waxes. We have coated the finished product with clear shellac after finishing and complete drying and buffing.

I still like the Liberon products better. I just opened a new jar of Gilt Cream and peeuuueee, is it ever smelly, but the Rub' Buff smell isn't much better. Let's face it though, nearly every day we deal with moulding that needs to be touched up. I just try to do it quickly without breathing too much, then put it somewhere to dry.

Today I used another Liberon product for the first time. It is the waxy bars that come in shades of gold. I was working on an ornate frame and the moulding didn't match up, as usual. I shaved off a little of the wax and warmed in my fingers then pressed it into the gap. I then scuplted it a little and it looked great. It is very hard and won't rub off like regular frame filler does. In some places I touched a with a little gilt cream to get a better match. I had been reading about these wax sticks for a long time, and I'm really sorry I didn't try them sooner.

It would help if Liberon would make a sample package so framers could try everything without buying the whole line. It is expensive to buy a set of products before you know you'll use it. Framers would be convinced if they could only try it out. I'm sure a sample pack would greatly increase their sales because I think it's good enough to own the whole line of touch up products.

I could use a little rub & buff right about now.

Nighty night.
