I just had a customer bring in a 20x 30 photo done on Kodak Professional Endura paper it looks like it had been spray mounted but was badly rippling and delaminating. She wants me to seperate it and remount it.

I would appreciate recommendations of how to best do this.:help:

Should I use something to clean off the old spray first? Would it be best to spray mount it again and weight it or to try to dry mount it? I only have a Seal 210 so would have to do it in sections.

Thanks for your advice!

Aloha

will it take warmth(NOT heat)???? anyone????

thoroughly warmed might help defeat the glue(if it wont pull away as is)...helps me sometimes with old glues that havent totally dried out but I really shy away from its usage on photos

Put it in the freezer??????

Levie, have you searched through previous conversations on this kind of thing? I think there's quite a bit. The thing about prints today is that there are so many different kinds of inks and papers. One print reacts just fine to removal or mounting, while another one sustains unexpected damage. I'd say feel free to buy as much time as you need doing homework just like you're doing. You can always try it, but you can never untry it. Even if the experts do come on here and recommend releasing it with something, you'll only want to try it if you have her sign a release waiver first. She needs to be willing for the whole print to be ruined if that happens. That's not your intent, and hopefully it won't happen, but unless you have her signed word on it, it could really come back to bite you.

If you do take it on, be sure to give her a quote that allows for all your time and materials. When people are asked to sign such a waiver and given a quote for what a careful removal and remount might cost, they decide that they can afford to just replace it and start out right in the first place. Or leave it as is. Whatever you do, I wouldn't try to do it this week. It's the kind of thing that needs a lot of time and attention. For what it's worth, those are my thoughts.

Can this photo be reprinted. If it is available for reprinting I would start by putting it in the heat press. Many of the spray adhesives can be reactivated by heat. I would tell them that it may or may not work. If it doesn't work out then the customer would be responsible for the reprint.

Releasing the print fom the mount and cleaning and remounting would be more expensive than a new copy in most cases.

Greetings,
It is a resin coated photo that may be removed, cleaned and remounted. You may submerge in a shallow tray of solvent ot try heating and removing from the substrate when warm. Then remover old spray with solvent, rinse clean, dry and remount with a tissue base adhesive on foam or mount board of choice.

For additional information and how-to see any of my mounting books, or email me directly.
