PFG, Picture Framing God
As you may know, we recently bought a Print Mount hot/vac 40 x 60 press and are still working out the creases, so to speak.
We bought 2 release boards from LJ that I am about to return. We carefully mounted several small semi-gloss posters which were fairly light in weight, not the medium weight that most posters from companies like McGaw use. We used Economount (from Print Mount) as we have for most poster mounts with release paper so far. The posters came out with a faint, but distinct ripply pattern all over all of the small posters. (Luckily this is a volume job and we have extras). We mounted some more exactly the same way but used release paper, and they were fine. We noticed that the release board actually left this impression on the leftover foamcore itself. Hmmm...then we mounted a medium weight poster from our stock using the same release board--no problem. It seems that we can't mount thin or shiny posters using these release boards from LJ (Bienfang--light blue in color). What's up with this?
Dave M, I like your idea of making our own release boards--It might be safer!
