I'm in the market for a couple of Stanley 400 vises. I have several of the clones and would like the real deal. There are several available on eBay but most appear to be in rough shape.

Anything I should be aware of with these used vises? Aside from cleaning and lubing them up, is there anything else needed to rehab them into good working condition.

Unless the cast iron is cracked there's very little that can be damaged. I just checked them out on eBay and there doesn't seem to be any compelling reason to buy the more expensive ones, they all look serviceable. A little TLC and maybe some paint and lube and you should be good to go.

I bought 4 rehabbed 400's a couple of years ago for $50 each. They were in perfect condition and I could use them immediately. You should be able to find them for that or less.

Shipping by weight may be another matter. But if they will fit in one of the USPS flat rate boxes, it should go for about $10.
