I am not a big non-glare fan, but lots of my clients will have nothing else...too cheap for AR! I have been using T-V reflection control for years, but lately it seems like every other box we get is almost impossible to clean. I don't mean dirt, I mean the streaks presumably caused by the etching process. It drives us batty! I have mixed up a "potion" with some rottenstone in it, and we have even resorted to using very fine steel wool to polish these streaks off. The labor to do this is ridiculous! Has anyone else been having this problem, and if so, do you have a secret way to get it off? Errrrrr!

I have not had any problems with the Tru-Vue RC glass using their glass cleaner. I have been having numerous flaws in the clear glass from them. United sells the TV glass cleaner, and would be worth a try.

Never had a problem cleaning RC glass with the Sprayway glass cleaner for the graphic arts that I get from LJ. Try a little harder with the AR products. A couple of good demo pieces, especially shadow boxes, help sell the glass - very good for the bottom line.

You could try using "Amaze" glass cleaner & polish. I use it on antique glass often but i've been, uh, amazed at what it'll get off the glass

Those streaks have been annoying me for years. I have put lots of this glass in the rubbish bin because of the streaks and most suppliers do not believe there is a problem.

I think perhaps some people might not be noticing them. Either that or all the streaky stuff is sent to a select few framers.

I have a dark coloured fabric on my workbench which shows the streaks very well. If your glass cleaning bench top is a light colour you may not notice them.

It is satisfying to know that I am not the only one to be concerned by this.

Ormond,
I'm glad I'm not the only one, also!
Some boxes are much worse than others. I may start returning these boxes to the supplier.

I have tried the TV glass cleaner. I don't think it cleans any better than any other cleaner, and it was the disadvantage of containing a purple dye to make it pretty. A drop of this once flew off the tip of the bottle and landed on a customer's medical diploma and stained it. I had to replace the diploma because the stain could not be removed. I don't think unnecessary dyes have any place in "conservation" products. (Wow! I feel better now!)

Brian,
Welcome to the grumble! Where do you buy "Amaze"? With as much antique glass as we clean around here, sounds like something I'd like to try.

Leslie, the Amaze I got was from Sommer and Maca. They are the ones I get my glass cleaner "Hi-Sheen" from. This stuff is made in australia and a little goes a long way. Two little tubs could last a framer a lifetime. The manufacturer's url is web page but this probably won't get you as far as consulting a janitorial supply company or Sommer & Maca.
Hope this helps!

Brian.
