i know we cannot recycle picture framing glass. but are there any reasons that we cannot recycle acrylite plexiglass? we use alot of plexiglass and i would rather recycle it than throw it in the landfill. thanks.

Call a local plastics supplier. If they recycle you could just drop yours off periodically.

A good way to recycle plexi is to contact a school or college with an arts program. Local college students come by once in a while for our scraps. They use it in print making, I believe.

I believe sheet acrylic is recyclable, but I donate the leftovers to school art departments. That method of recycling does my heart good, and costs nothing.

By the way, Acrylite and Plexiglas are competing trade names. That's like talking about a Kenmore Frigidaire.

Acrylite is a trade name of CYRO, and Plexiglas is a trade name of Altuglas. Acrylite is the brand packaged and coated by Tru-Vue, and sold through their distribution network. Plexiglas is generally sold through industrial distributors of sheet/tube plastics.

Acrylic scraps make great ice/snow scrapers for those of you that live in a place that is plagued with the carp. I find that a piece about 10 X 7 works well. I give them to people occasionally and I've been thinking (not too seriously) about cutting some in shapes that more resemble a store bought scraper and selling or giving them away.

It's a shame that we framers have to throw away so much material that we should be able to find a good use for. I'm not smart enough to figure out how to do that. Of course we donate some but most of us create more than we can donate.

Maybe the next time we donate to a school, we can ask them to have the kids come up with other uses for the things. Kids often think outside the box and have great imaginations.

Then we can steal their ideas and make some real money :icon21:!
