Hi everyone,

I am looking for a recommendation on glue to affix a wood backpiece (for hanging) to an aluminum sheet on which the photo is mounted.

The aluminum sheet is rather big (one 2'x4' and one 3' x 4') so they are not lightweight. It's actually an aluminum composite, so it's approx 3 lbs for smaller one, 5 lbs for larger one

I need something I know will support the weight of this item for years. I was thinking Gorilla Glue but I really have no experience with metal to wood and the need for years of no-fail support

Thanks - Brian

I use silicone and let it cure for 24 hours. I have had no problems with this.

I have also used liquid nails, but you MUST scratch up the back of the aluminum for a good bond. I have had the liquid nails fail on me, for not curing correctly.

I have an artist who prints only on aluminum, and I adhere strainers on the back for hanging.

I've used 2 part epoxy on a wood strainer going on the back of an aluminum sheet and it worked pretty well, it's probably been three years and they're still holding. BUT, they were much smaller than what you described, only about 8" x 20"..

silicone is a good idea when you have enough surface area to set it. I had to adhere acrylic to a Dibond panel (aluminum) and used an adhesive the is made for the sign industry LORD 406/19. You need something like this so you have good peel strength. You could check with Ellsworth Adhesives http://www.ellsworth.com and see what they would suggest. When in doubt make up a test sample and do some testing.

wow awesome - thanks for the great advice! I have a lot to look for now, the dibond example is pretty much what i'm using.

Thanks

Brian
