Re-framing a Mirror

Hello. Long time lurker, first time poster. We had a customer bring in a large framed mirror (46"x38"). She did not like the frame, so we picked out a new one. When we went to remove the mirror from the frame, we discovered it had been glued into the frame with what looks to be hot glue. The glue did not go all the way around the mirror, there were globs of glue about every 12 inches.

Any suggestions on how to get this mirror out, or is it in there for good?

If it is hot glue as you said you can break that stuff pretty easy by just putting some pressure on it. On the other hand if it is mushy then it is not going to be hot glue, but silicone. Silicone is a bit mushy and pulls-stretches. This can be cut out with a razor blade. Be careful not to scratch the silvering.

Be very careful here.

If you break the mirror it may be expensive to replace.

If it's hot glued, a bit of heat with a hair dryer might help.

If silicone, there is a thread here siliconed mirror that might help.
