Since I started watching Gordon Ramsay effing turn around those effing bad restaurants I've wanted to see the same effing concept applied to frame shops.

Why? because I've developed some sympathy for what restaurateurs go through, and the exposure would be great for our business.

Because there's a lot of scope for drama, art/framing appreciation, and more sales.

So who's the Number One Personality in this business, who also is camera-ready?
He/She has to be able to effing swear.

I love that show, but Ramsey makes me cringe at some of the things he says to the restaurant owners.

The language he uses on Kitchen Nightmares is sweet compared to the language he uses on his ####'s Kitchen show. Of course, we all know it's show biz, right?

I like the show. I think he is very smart and most general concepts apply to all businesses. I have no probablem with him being direct, but the cursing tends to hurt the message.

Get Back on Message!

OK forget Ramsay. Who do we get, and who's framed for the Famous Network Exec that we can pitch this thing to?

We need to get this greenlighted in order to fight that recession!

Where's Marc Lizer? He's a player. Tell his people to do lunch with somebody.

I, too, am a major-league effing Ramsay fan, and Kitchen Nightmares is one of my favorite shows. I'd volunteer my shop in a minute for the framing equivalent :)

One of the themes that comes through for me is that Ramsay has a drive for excellence which he *tries* to impart to the business owner, not always successfully. He can size up a place and *see* what it needs to be successful, but getting the owner to see the same thing is often... problematic. Which is where the bulk of the drama comes from...

("You call that an effing miter? My effing blind granny could cut a effing better miter than that!")

Have you noticed how all these so-called gastronomic gurus have one thing in common.

They all have the type of faces you just want to slap.

(Especially Jamie Oliver)

serious inquiry-------(I wont watch the show---he raises my BP waaaaayyy toooo hi!) makes me really wonder why no one has taken 1 or 2 dozen good wacks at him with a #8 skillet ??????????? :smileyshot22:

There is a show called "Peter Perfect" ... he does the same thing that Ramsey does except he does it for small businesses and is oh so polite about it. Quite often the businesses are hair dressers but he has done other types of businesses, pastry, cake, clothing etc. Altho, not geared towards 'picture framing/Art' it's the same concept.

Dee's Dad, Don't you know the reason for the mute button on my TV is for Billie Mays:party:

Lori

Chick,

I have mutilated my mute button to the point of inoperation on Mays, the Shamwow Guy, Optimum, Verizon, Turner Cable, and Gretta Van Sustren...

I am pretty sure this has been done. I'm not a framer, so get personalities scrambled, but didn't Mark Bluestone (or someone, sorry if name is wrong) do this for a couple of frameshops, one of which was in Montana, for - I don't know - Decore, or PFM? As I say, the details elude me, but I am sure it has been done and mentioned on Grumble.

Do we really need a show? Or should we just watch these types of shows, and then turn a critical eye on ourselves?

It all boils down to looking at your self and being willing to change. That and the money the show dumps into up grades.

How much is a new coat of paint, straighting your samples, stageing a "show" or "opening" we have all the information. I know that I for one sometimes just have to use it.

Vivian has published some great books on the subject. And she is really cammra ready.

It seems to me that all the restaurants featured in the show have several bad things in common.

Usually it's a dirty kitchen or restaurant, food that is not fresh, and a bad attitude by the owner or staff.

I think most frame shop owners could be guilty of having a store that's not clean enough, displays or stock that is not fresh or current, and a feeling of being overwhelmed or not caring from time to time.

I know it's hard to get myself motivated sometimes, mainly I think because I've been doing it for 28 years.

Well, I just threw out several big trash cans full of samples, so that I can get new samples up on the wall. I don't want the 80-20 rule, I want closer to 80-40 or 80-50, maybe even better.

So here's a germ of an idea: (thanks to Surfer. He and I have the same lack of urgency)

Week 1: we all clean our stores, top to bottom.

Week 2: corner sample review

Week 3: pricing review

Week 4 and onwards: someone else suggests

Prior to each week there's a discussion of best practises, then during the week we all get on the Grumble to complain. But we do the work.

Any interest? In any case, my high season is coming, and the work has to get done.

Easy to explain. He'd understand, because he'd know the benefits. Aside from the political stuff, look at what goes on here: an on-line Help Desk for knowledge transfer at all levels in different disciplines (framing, art, IT); best practices discussion, competitive knowledge, personal support systems, deals in equipment, how-to advice in dealing with suppliers, and more, including the stuff on conferences, seminars. This business can be very isolating due to its specialized nature and small staff size, but the Grumble is connecting.

Just have to manage your time.

If I understand this thread we're looking for someone to yell, kick a$$, humiliate and call us a dirty names.

I would suggest Grumbler HannaFate :)
