I'm setting up a new computer and need to transfer my Quickbooks information from the old computer to the new computer.

The old computer only has a floppy drive and the old version USB. I did a backup to floppy on the old computer, it took 2 floppies. Then tried to restore on the new computer. It seemed to read the first floppy OK, no errors the message box said restore completed but did NOT prompt for the second floppy. So I put the second floppy in and nothing happened. It's like it ignored the second floppy. Both floppies have the same .QBB file on them.

When I opened QB none of the accounts were there.

Does anyone know which QB data files to copy from the old to new computer?

Denny,
If you have a usb port you could use a jump drive and not have to worry about the limitations of a floppy disk.
My version of Quickbooks (Pro 2005) uses files with the extension of *.QBB I imagine your version should be the same.

You can tell it to do a backup, and then grab the contents of the backup folder. (Check to make sure the date is correct)

The USB flash drive is what I would do, if they're not in a networked environment.

If the file is small enough, you may even be able to email it to yourself from one pc to the other.

I tried the flash drive but when I plug it in and boot the computer it locks up. The old computer is running Win98(se?). I was told the flash drive is USB 2.0 and the computer is probably USB 1.0.

Emailing is out becouse the old computer is not connected to the internet.

Does the old pc have a cd burner?

Denny,
You will need a driver to use the flash drive. What brand is it? You should be able to download the driver on the new computer and copy it over with a disk. The USB 2.0 vs 1.0 usually only causes the access/write speed to be a little lower.

QuickDraw,
Did as you suggested. Downloaded the driver, installed it, plugged in the flash drive when instructed but the computer still did not find it.

Mike,
The CD drive is read only.

The only thing I did not try was rebooting after installing the driver. It did not instruct me to, I'll try anyway.

Thanks
