I have question for CMC owners:
Can you do odd shape cutouts with a CMC?
I have someone that wants baseball patches framed but wants the cutouts to be similar in the shape of the patch instead of them in a square cutout.
I have seen some work before were the patch was in a similar cutout but I did not know if they were done on a CMC or done by hand?

thanks for any help
josh

Yea, do work like this all the time on my wizard.

Ok Dave...I'll bite. I have a Wizard, but haven't had it long with no training. How do you do the shapes? Is it a matter of overlaying the different templates or is there something special that we can use to "draw"?

Thanks...Gene

You can use PathTrace to design just about anything. You can get to PathTrace from the Cut Preview Screen by Clicking on the PathTrace tab in the upper right-hand corner. Or, you can open it separately by Clicking Start > All programs > Wizard > Tools > PathTrace.

With PathTrace open, you can Click on Help to open the PathTrace manual, which will walk you through how to use it.

What I usually do is load a picture of the image, then draw around what I want to cut. Trace it, save it as a CutArt, and wha-la! The perfect outline around a patch.

Later, when you want to get even more fancy, you can use the same technique to actually duplicate the patch, cutting out the various colors and shapes and reassembling them.

More info

I thought I'd share some more information, as I've gotten a couple of e-mails regarding this post.

Custom mats are currently $50.00 per design, and $75.00 for Rush (usually a 2-day turn-around). You can send me a copy of the image via e-mail, fax, PhotoBucket, snail-mail, carrier pigeon, etc. Just let me know the basics.

If this is going around a patch (or similar item), what size is the patch?
If it is an opening around a patch (or similar item), how far away from the Patch do you want the opening?
If this is a design that is to be cut (such as a Logo), what size do you want it to cut?
How many layers would you like it to be, and what size reveals?

I’ll draw them up as CutArt, which you will be able to resize like any other CutArt. However, note that these are not templates, so you cannot change the parameters nor the number of reveals, nor the reveal width. This is why I ask for the information, as I would need to draw/offset each layer.

I'll e-mail you the file with instructions, you can load it into your MatDesigner, and cut it to your heart's content!

Don't forget to keep in mind any limitations your CMC may have. How small a radious it can cut, etc...

AND CHARGE for your work! Just because you are using a CMC does not mean that you didn't do the math, or layout!
