The military designs from the other thread are great, but I specifically need some ideas for framing a Purple Heart. This is the only military memorabilia saved from a fire, and my customer wants something special. Can anyone post pics of a single-medal? Any suggestions for the design are appreciated, as nothing great and wonderful is coming to me--I do have a Wizard.

This isn't a single medal, But I thought you might like to see an interesting way to hang it. There is a ramp, that is closer to the glass at the top, and tappers away as it goes down. This allows the medal to appear like it;s floating. I used black suede matboard for the cavity which contains the medal, and Blue& Purple for the opening.

what did you use for the mat? I did one couple of years ago and owner wasnt all that happy with the purple choices in the rack---had to settle for something 'in the neighborhood'--didnt want to wait to see if we could get some cloth of an appropriate shading....I did a 'frame in a frame' for it...& had a pic of the guy/uniform in the other half of main frame....might have done it the same way w/o the pic

I'd like to try a nice gold frame, maybe closed corner if you can swing it, with a fairly neutral mat with a couple gold lines ruled. Then a deep bevel strip wrapped in a shimmery purple fabric and then the medal floated on the same fabric sort of plush looking. Ah, the word escapes me right now, but I mean with it sort of wrinkly or draped, not flat.

And the medal mounted with Melinex, no silicone. And Museum glass of course.

Sister, send me a private message and let me know how you're doing. It's been ages.

Thanks for the responses and FramerDave, I know what you mean about the fabric--I would say "bunched". I have been a good girl without the silicone (not sure that came out just right). I'll send you an update soon; all is good.
