I've done a lot of jerseys by stretching them over a matboard and attaching the jersey to a contrasting matboard. A customer saw one where the jersey was puffy. I haven't seen it but sounds like it had quilt batting in it. Does anyone do jerseys like this and how do you do yours?

I usually pin without anything inside, - jerseys would use a lot of batting. I personally don't like the "stiff" look of foamcore inserts.

Polyester batting is cheaper than cotton candy, less fattening, and more preservation accepted.

I think the roll we have is larger than a king sized comforter and cost less than a matine movie.

Besides, when was the last time you saw a flat football player??? I mean besides the Lions. :D

We puff football and hockey jersies because real ones usually have more room in them for all the padding they use.
Baseball and basketball usually don't get any, they are more form fitting because of the lack of protective pads.

I know it's naughty to post a comment that belongs on Warped in a Grumble thread, but I fully expected this thread to be about a Puffy Jersey - along the lines of Jerry Seinfeld's Puffy Shirt

Now, to try and redeem myself by answering the OP:

I did a Christening gown with batting inside for a store example. Looked too much like a headless baby so I took the "stuffing" out and am far happier with it. I've never used it for jerseys. I sew 'em down with a 4-ply shape inside. I did do one once where I constructed a sort of 3D implied chest out of 4 ply. It took a long time to get it not to look like Barbarella and I didn't charge nearly enough for it so - never again.

Well, since you already broke through the wall Meghan, I will say I also thought about Seinfeld's puffy shirt. My next thought was that Sean Puffy P Ddiddy Daddy Combs had changed his name to "Puffy Jersey". Then I knew that made no sense.

The only place I have ever puffed up a jersey was a little in the shoulders to give them a padded look. Our hockey team the Av's have these bear claws on the shoulders that are hard to see, a little batting there seems to help.
