My vac pump motor is toast, I think....when starting the fan on the end turns a few revs then the motor hangs up and the starter buzzes and strains....

Would I be better off having an electric motor repair shop try to fix it or are rebuilts available and from whom? ...or should I just get a new motor and where is the best place to get one ?

Of course, this happens just when I get a ton of mounting jobs in so I need it pretty quick.

thanks

I went through this before but fortunately I had a spare one.

Take a look at these and see if the specs match:
http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_tr...w=vacuum+compressor&_sacat=See-All-Categories Find out the age of the used ones.

If you don't have specs already, get them from your equipment manufacturer. But they have to match on the electrical specs and match or exceed for vacuum.

What I found a while back is a rebuild is around $125-$250, a used one is about $150 or less...and a new one could be up to $750.

In my experience, they're not things that break very often...so I think you'd be okay with a used one. Even if you rebuild yours, it won't have a warranty.

Try Grainger (www.grainger.com) for a new pump.

I'm not an electrician, but the brushes on the motor might be the problem and it is a relatively easy fix. Check with a company that re-wind electric motors.

It may not be the motor at all, it might well be the pump. Moisture gets inside and rusts things up to the point they will not move anymore. If it has got to that point, you probably need a new pump, or some major parts for it.

You can try taking it apart, giving it a good cleaning and some lubrication. It is worth a shot before you spend the bucks for a new one.

Less's did that a couple of times. Turned it over a few times with a screw driver by the fan (power off)and away she went.

Where's me UnseaL?

Already tried cleaning and lube...no dice....a new one from Seal is 832.00, a new one that will work by replacingb the powern cord from Grainger is 639.00

For future ref the Grangier motor and pump is a Thomas model 2688CE44.

I'll still be trying to fix the old one, but if I can't I'll go with the Thomas from Grainger......thanks everyone.

Hate to say it, but in a pinch you might try Harbor Freight for a back up pump until you can get yours to work again.
Also, try PrintMount and see how much there replacement it. My Print Mount has a Gast which is a great pump.

You can call a refrigeration service and parts company. The vacuum pumps are also used on frost free refrigerators. Match the specs on your pump and you have a replacement. They can most likely service the one you have as well.

What is the make and model of the pump? Is it a rotery vane or a diaphram?
