Printing from an I Mac Pro Laptop

I don't have much experience with MACS, but on the PC side you would want to make sure the printer is SHARED. Right click the printer, within the PC's Printers folder, and enable SHARING.

After that, it's likely that the Apple's printer setup utility will be able to see it as a network resource. If it doesn't work, you may have to use SAMBA in the advanced printing area. A Mac user will probably jump in to confirm, or to correct me if necessary.

On the PC side, some a/v suites block drive and printer sharing by default. (Symantec Internet Security, Kaspersky Internet Security, etc) Each one will have a setting to trust the wireless network, and to allow sharing of resources. The basic a/v versions of these don't mind, and don't include an additional firewall.

For it to work, they both have to be talking with the same router. (wired or wireless won't matter)

I would like to figure this out too. I have a printer that is shared and every PC that has connected to the network can find it no prob. My Macbook Pro doesn't see it, tho I can connect to the PC that is sharing the printer and get and save files fine.

I'm wondering if I need to install a Mac printer driver somewhere, most likely on the PC?

Here you go, this gives more info about accessing a shared network resource from a mac, via samba. You'll need to note the name of the shared resource, from the printer sharing section on the PC.

example: \\frontcounterPC\HP9000

On the Mac and during installation, indicate that it is on the network. If the Mac can see the network, it should see the printer independent of the PCs. I can't help if the printer is connected to one of the PCs - it really should be connected to the network if it has a network interface, ethernet or wireless.

Looking on the Lexmark website, I see that this printer is discontinued and connects via USB only. (to the PC only)

They don't offer Apple printer drivers for this model, as far as I can tell.

However, if you can get it to network with the PC it may work with a similar driver for a more basic Lexmark model. (for printing only, not the scanner or other features)

In your Macs “Library” folder, there should be a “Printer” folder. In that will/should be a “Lexmark” folder. Check in there to see if there is a printer driver for the Lexmark 8350. If the Lexmark printer model is an older one, then Lexmark may not have produced a ‘legacy’ printer driver for the OS 10.

If not, check the GIMP website to see if someone has written one.

These are old - back from when you'd have to have a printserver to connect it to a network. One of them even has (only) a parallel port connection!

Well, this worked for me (both on my 15 year old Optra laser and 5 year old HP inkjet):

:)

Note: since there is apparently no Mac driver, as Mike suggested you may have to use a generic one that provides only simple print functions.
