Want to purchase my friend's Fletcher Terry 2000 table mat cutter and her FT3000 wall mount. Good working condition but old...15 yrs old. What's a fair price to offer her for each of them? Thanks!

$500 for the both of them...total not for each.

At that age condition is everything - mine are 13 years old and in excellent condition - I would be insulted by a $500 offer. Check all of the for sale prices in the commercial section of this forum and maybe ebay. Of course you should offer a bit less to your friend, but consider whether you want to remain friends - business dealings with friends are always risky.

Condition is important...

I tend to agree with Pat, in that with equipment this old, condition is important.

The F-3000 could run $300-900 depending upon condition - check the material rest for wear, and the cutting head turret. Both of this items should still be on Fletcher-Terry's replacement parts list. $500 might be in the ballpark to offer for the wall cutter.

I would probably not recommend purchasing the F-2000. If your heart is set on buying a used mat cutter, there exist too many used F-2100's out there at good prices not to go for this newer model. It had major design improvements that make it a better choice.

Whenever you make offers on anything, you should start out lower than you might be finally willing to spend. Starting out at $500 for the both is fine and if you really want the F-2000 then my guess of $500 for the both is right in there with Johns guess of $500 for the wall cutter as he feels the mat cutter is too old to be worth much as there are newer, better models out there. Telling the person that the F-2000 is sooo old, it's not worth much of anything. Finally, offer him a couple hundred or less for the cutter.

Besides... good working condition as compared to what?
