I left my heart in san francisco/ st louis
It's been a long time since I priced anything retail, and even longer since I have done it manually. All I have is the suggested retail schedule from last year's Larson price book and it seems a little high to me.

So what is your price for 16x20:

Acid free mat
Con clear glass
acid free hinge (not archival, just a plain hinge)
fitting

Also, the retail of frames whose chops are priced as follows:
3.50
4.50
5.00
8.50

Individual prices for the componets would be appreciated, since some things on this price schedule seem fine and some seem high.

Please and thank you.

PS anyone who wants to tell me to get a POS, yes I know, it's not my place, it's not in the budget, and it's not going to happen, :o

The reason you haven't gotten any responses yet imaluma is that it is easier if you actually specify a mat and moulding, but I'll try to give you the information you are requesting.

You say "acid-free mat"... I'm going to presume you mean acid-free and lignin free and for a 16X20 #C9605 my charge would be $12.93

Conservation Clear TruVue Glass: $ 25.49

Linen hinge with AF Foam Core Brd: $ 15.84

Fitting (including brass hook): $ 16.98

Moulding: 3.50/12.95
4.50/15.75
5.00/17.00
8.50/24.23

I also have a 5.00 set charge for the moulding.

Please be aware that to compare any one component of a shop's pricing formula to another without completely understanding how they price could be very misleading. Every shop prices a little differently. Also different shops have differing costs as far as variable and fixed expenses. These costs need to be taken into account in any pricing formula.

For instance... I know that I'm probably a little low on my matting and high on my glass. I price all my mouldings off the chop price but generally buy in length.

It always amazes me that when we do price checks on a specific design how close most of us are in our actual retail pricing even though if broken down it is all over the place.

LOL POS is well worth it and pays for itself, based on the fact you are most likely loosing money by not updating your moulding prices often enough.

Anyways
CC $13.33
Mat C9502 $21.60
AFFC $13.09
Fitting $18.77
Brass hook, corner protectors, and plastic bagged, validated parking and/or free delivery NC.

FRAME GUTS $66.79

Moulding too much work, sorry :o

Well, the mount and fitting prices were what seemed outrageous to me, and from just these two responses I can see I'm not the only one who thinks so.

And as far as acid free mats are concerned I was envisioning something comparable to Alphamat or Crescent Rag.

LOL Randy I know, I KNOW! But we aren't exactly selling retail to customers and with such low volume it doesn't make sense to invest in something that would only be used once or twice a year. For really real, a POS is not the right move for this environment.

Larson used to have reasonable fitting charges, for whatever reason their last catalog had the backing included as part of the price for fitting as I recall.

C2253 $38.28
B8740 $27.00

Here's my breakdown for a 16x20:

Mat (alphacellulose or cotton rag): $21.45
Cons. Clear glass: $20.27
Hinging (using hayaku rather than starch paste): $22
Fitting: $16.20
