Will someone please tell me how to insert that "Previously posted by..." thing in bold type into a post?. Copying and pasting doesn't get the same affect. Thanks.

Maybe you mean clicking on the (" ")`.

Move your cursor over it and a little pop-up should say Reply With Quote. Left click that and a Reply window will pop up on the bottom of your screen, where you can reply to the quote.

And please resist the temptation to include the ENTIRE PREVIOUS POST in your quote.

Delete the part of the previous post you don't need to include, but be careful not to delete any of the formatting commands or you'll end up with something like this:

Close, but remember to leave in the /quote or the bold and formatting goes away!

I once went to a forum to get some tech'l help for an adware program that got into my computer. In this tech forum each and EVERY reply would quote the entire thread up to that point. There were about 6 posts that made a page which took 3 minutes to scroll down through.

And these were computer geeks! Oh, what was I thinking - geeks are geeks!

Another way is to use the FULL REPLY FORM and click the QUOTE button. You can do the same for links, images, and some other things too.

Mike

Holy Cow! Wouldn't you know you did that before you hit the "Add reply" button? I don't get how you only use, like, a sentence. Can't you just highlite a sentence and then click on the " "? Or do you have to "" the entire post and delete the heck out of everything you don't want?
Where's the /quote?

Argh! I think I need more sleep! Okay, I did that, Mike, and it looks weird here. Taking a chance it will look different after I hit the "Add reply" button. Here goes....

Yay, I think I did it! Did I do it? Except for the second 'quote' thingie...where did that come from?

You may have mistakenly double clicked?

Looks great otherwise!

Remember you can preview your post before submitting to see how it will look.
Just in case you were wondering.

Easiest method is to highlight what you want to quote, and copy it.
Then, in a new message, type . Click your cursor between the two center brackets and paste in what you copied before. Bingo- instant quote.
You can check your results with the Preview Post button.
