For those of you who ae PPFA members--is it my imagination or are there fewer and fewer posts on that forum?

Or, since I use AOL, maybe I'm in AOHell, as someone once said, and not receiving all the e-mail that's on there.

Jan 1 it's new computer time, so goodbye AOL

I recently signed up for Framerselect, They also have a forum that seems to be dead in the water.
I think The Grumble is definitely the forum of choice for most of our industry.

Yes, I have noticed fewer posts lately, but I'm not sure why.
If I have a question I generally post on both forums and hope for an answer.

tgfu408,

PPFA's Online Exchange (Hitchhikers) is alive and well.......but I've also noticed a decline in postings......for that matter I've noticed a decline in "serious" postings on the Grumble as well.

By the way, I also have been missing some of the HH E-mails, and I know this is a problem consistent with AOL. Even with a new computer, I still have retained my AOL account for travel purposes......but it does drive you nuts!

I'm thinking about setting up a couple of new E-mail accounts with my web server for discussion type mail.

Regards,

John

I've noticed fewer postings everywhere. Even Warped is slow, Ron used to post 152 times a day and now is down to 20. HH's has been slow, The Grumble has been slow, Warped has be slow, could it be that we are getting busy?

Jerry

I read HH messages, but find that often the same question is posted as a thread on this forum. Frankly I find the Grumble forums much easier to use. Maybe there is a filter I can set up to change it that I am not aware opf, but with HH I see the replies in my message list before I see the original post. It just feels clunkier, if you know what I mean. With many of the same people posting in both places I don't worry so much about missing something.

As for my own Grumble participation: This summer I worked in a shop in a shopping plaza that was strictly destination, no one ever wandered in just to take a look. In September I moved to a brand new shop on a busy corner, furthermore I didn't have internet access in this location until this past Tuesday. At home I read the Grumble after my son has gone to bed ( after two stories and an hour and a half of me explaining why he can't have another story , why don't I just read him another story, it would be so much faster?) I find myself interested in reading, but not lucid enough to make intelligent contributions, so I post less often.

I like to think that people aren't posting as much because their shops are busy.

I'm another AOL subscriber who has noticed missing HH emails.

There's an HH thread about "memory boxes" going on right now, and I have no idea what the original post said -- all I got were two replies.

Since the PPFA/PMA discussion fired up on the Grumble, it seems there have been far fewer posts on HH.

Any suggestions for an internet/email provider that offers access by local phone numbers in all (or most) major cities? I'm up for a change.

And then there's my difficulty: one can never be absolutely sure, but I swear I paid my annual dues. I've been axed from HH, so they obviously think I haven't. Monday will tell. (I'm not sure I'm the only one with this predicament.)

Or...could the merger have had some impact?

It seems this thread has nothing to do with framing, so I will continue to treat it that way... John & Jim ( and everyone else I know) are sick of AOL. Recently, my local ISP was sold and after continual bad service, I just switched to AT&T (www.worldnet.att.net) According to all the stuff they sent me, I can access my e-mail account from any computer with internet access by going to a special member area on their website. I was even able to do this on my previous ISP ..a small New England based company. Just went to the website, put in my password and could read and answer my mail. I could even leave all my mail on their server and never download it to my computer. I think that would be a particularly useful feature if i was haveing a clandestine internet affair or was planning criminal activity. Also, useful if I was just travelling and wanted to read my messages. Anyway, my point is, you can probably find the features you are looking for just about anywhere.

As to the traffic on HH..it has seemed like less over the past year or so, except for discussion about PPFA-PMA stuff. People don't seem to be asking as many questions that need answering. I don't know why things have slowed down, but I still tune in just about every day! Need my internet fix.

Lotsa people don't like anything associated with Microsoft, but, after using about a half-dozen IP's, I like them best. Everybody I know that is on AOL doesn't like it. MSN has filters you can set to keep kiddies from accessing nasty sites.

On another note, let's consider the organization of the Grumble vs. the HH. HH is like being in a big room with multiple conversations going on. The structure of the Grumble forum is more organized. One can read or not read a topic. The conversations may drift but usually are focused. So let's say that the Grumble is the same large room but you can roam from conversation to conversation hear all of it and stay where you choose. Good Job Framer. This is definitely a more attractive forum.

I'm using earthlink. It works great, I never miss an HH email.

Not only is the G the #1 framing forum on the internet, it is the best of all the forums I've looked at. One of the best attributes is that you can just keep scrolling on the same page for a thread. Some forums are archaic when they are born. For example, other forums break threads into pages so that you have to go to another link every 5 to 15 posts. What a nuisance. I won't even bother with them except for the Amazon Mystery & Thriller discussion board.

Keep up the good work, framer.

Calley,

On the offhand chance that you are serious (The Grumble is a serious forum, is it not?) I'll take a stab at this. Warped Moulding affectionately known as Warped is another forum within the Picture Framers Grumble. You can access it from the main forum listing or jump to it from the little pull-down menu at the lower-right of this page.

As I understand it, Warped started out as a under-used jokes forum. Susan May (the Warped moderator - take that any way you want) pestered framer (the wise and patient administrator) into changing the format to a more open arena for all sorts of idle chit-chat between framers. Actual framing is seldom discussed there.

Warped is not for all tastes. As most of you know, I myself can take it or leave it, but some seem to enjoy it immensely. You should check it out and decide for yourself.

So, Ron is that why you are single handedly responsible for more threads on the warped than any other person?

Michael,Maybe some of the reason for diminished postings is that the data base in the archives holds the answers to many of the questions. Members are always urged to check the archives...Although I'd like to think that it's because of an increase in business!
