The vote is in. I'm told that the affiliation passed.

Although I did hold my nose and vote, I remained on the fence till the end.

Now I am hopeful for the best and wish our new PPFA a successful future.

Mel,

You are correct, the vote is in and PPFA is affiliating with PMA. I chaired the meeting at 11:00 AM this morning in Richmond. Of the third of the membership that voted, the overwhelming majority voted in favor of the affiliation.

Now that the decision has been made it is time to move forward, united. It is time to turn ideas in action. If you are a member, I encourage you to make your wishes known to your Board. If you have not tried PPFA, now is the time.

Hold a kind thought for our staff in Richmond who have served us so well.

All my best,

Change is good, and I'm ready to support the new affiliation. I was concerned when I read from the previous post, that only one third of the membership voted - not good. Members need to stand united and stop being apathetic - nothing will be strong if the apathy continues.

So what happens now? Will PMA be notifying us regarding renewal and the change? I was never very clear on how the merger would effect the existing structure of the PPFA.

I had already voted by the time the teleconferences were set up and didn't get a lot of questions answered.

Cheryl,

To answer your question, you will be receiving a letter from the PPFA officially announcing the results of the vote. This letter should come to you within the next two weeks. Within a few weeks you should also recieve from PPFA a letter discussing membership renewal, and PMA benefits which we do not currently have. I do not know the details of the additional benefits or I would pass them along. PMA will begin the process of moving the office from Richmond to Jackson immediately. The Richmond office will close at the end of December. Within the next few weeks the PPFA Board will meet with representatives from PMA to talk about the direction the organization will take over the next five years.

The discussion of PPFA that came from the debate on the value of the merger with PMA can be one of the best things for PPFA if we take to heart the comments of members and non-members. I would encourage both groups to let the PPFA Board here your thoughts. The vote to affiliate was only the beginning of a process to make this a better organization. As many on the Grumble have noted we, the PPFA, have a way to go. Let's not blow this opportunity. Speak up and as Bob Carter has said be part of the solution.

Please be patient as this evolves. We do not have all the answers, but we have some really good questions. I hope this helps.
