Full time grey nomad traveling Oz!
PPFA convention is over and it seems like it only just started.
I learned some new, really great stuff to take back with me to The Land Downunder and can't wait to put some of it into practise. Who said you can't learn anything new after 25 years in this business?

I had a wonderful time meeting many Grumblers and other framers from this side of the globe. It was awesome that you guys made Cathie & I feel so welcome and part of a 'family'!

If you weren't able to attend, I hope that you will be able to make it next year!

Great instructors help, Hugh! Every instructor that I spoke to at the show was so willing to listen. Thanks Jim, Rob, Chris, Linda and Hugh. You guys are devoted to our industry.

I had a great time and now I'm back at the shop ready for the next blast of snow.

It was nice to see what's going on in the photo industry. Great to get ideas from other framers on what they are doing. I attended some interesting classes and heard inspirational speakers to help lead us to success.

The theme of the conference was "Connect, Energize and Succeed." Looking back, the conference delivered parts one and two, now I just have to make it work.

I see that in 2011 the PMA show runs February 1 -3 in Los Vegas.

So... when is WCAF 2011?

It would be nice if they were adjacent to each other so framers could take in both shows with one trip.

Doug

Apparently show dates are made approximately seven years in advance so whatever date it's scheduled will be permanent!

WCAF 2011 Show Dates: January 24-26.

National Conference Dates: January 23-26. ...

It was a GREAT time! I'm already looking forward to next year!

I beleive the conference starts on January 30 and the show dates are as posted above 2/1 - 2/3

It should be very reasonable to take one flight and stay for both shows!

Ormond, It was great meeting you and you certainly are a gentleman!

I recieved a number of offers to frame my MCPF certificate.

Unfortunately Mikki, you were high bidder at 29.95!

I too must agree with Cliff (by the way, congrats on your MCPF Cliff) the meeting was a great time. As the Pres. of our new chapter I learned a lot about the inner workings of a chapter. It was very insightful and made me better understand the organization as well. The one thing that is very clear to me is that if you are in the picture framing business you should also be a memeber of PPFA. The name alone says it all...Professional Picture Framers Association. It seems to me that anyone in the industry who makes a living from the profession would want to be part of the association that gives them credibility as a professional, and offers education to help them be a better framer to boot.

People tell me all the time that they will take my advise because I never steer them wrong. Well my advise to anyone who is not a member of PPFA is,.....this is a great organization run by your piers, and who will help you in every facet of the industry. It is one of the best investments in your future you will ever make....no matter how big or small your business is! Try it, you'll like it.

It was nice meeting you Ormond! Cheesecake Factory!!!!
Wow, great cheesecake and great company too!
It was great meeting you too Mikki. Congrats on your competition prize!

Thanks Cliff!

If I had known you were accepting bids for framing your certificate, I would have beaten Mikki's bid in a heartbeat......let's say $4.95???

Ormond,
At the Fire and Ice dinner my wife, apparently deciding I needed help, unbeknown to me, passed the tube with my MCPF certificate in it around and people dropped folded business cards in, most with offers to frame.

I'm still evaluating the "bids."

Great convention!

Nice seeing everyone at the convention! Great opportunity to take some classes from PPFA but also from the other groups there like DIMA. The keynote speakers are also a great source of information!

Rob Markoff's luncheon session on fascinating finds on the tradeshow floor was much easier than trying to keep up with him as he runs through acres of tradeshow floor space showing you all the great new items.

One of the 8 am sessions by Constant Contact presented some great new ideas for email marketing.

Social networking opportunities were abundant! There was a PPFA member in the hotel lobby, on the shuttle bus, on the escalators, almost everywhere.

It was great to have the competition pieces on the tradeshow floor this year, in the "Custom Framing Pavilion". I talked to quite a few photographers who were impressed with the vast number of framing options for the same piece of art!

Hope to see everyone next year!

LOL! Cliff I stand behind my offer! Hey I gave my card to the imeadeate past pres.of PMA also. LOL!

Ormond so I'm wondering are racoons, possums and deer in the back yard as exotic to you as Koloas in your back yard are to us? :D

Mikki,
That's certainly the case with raccoons!
We do have our own version of native possums and deer that are not native but have escaped from a deer farm. They are quite a nuisance on roads at night!

Don't forget the lowest bid may have the highest shipping cost. I'll frame it for $5.00 but my shipping is $1500. Ya gotta make the money some way.
