It looks like it's official now. This was posted by the PPFA yesterday on their website. Should make for quite a show!

Professional Picture Framers Association (PPFA) – A PMA member association, announced today its annual conference, PPFA 2012, will be held Jan. 29 – Feb. 1, 2012, concurrent with the West Coast Art and Frame national conference and trade show. Both events will be at the Mirage Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nev.

PPFA events to be held at the event include PPFA International Framing Competition; certification programs, including CPF exam, MCPF exam, recertification course, and CPF preparation courses; PPFA All Member meeting; Chapter Leader Conference; and PPFA Vendor Tabletop Showcase/Reception. PPFA will feature many educational sessions and excellent business and technical training.

“I am extremely happy and pleased to have PPFA and WCAF joining together for the benefit of the framing industry,” says PPFA President Ken Link, CPF, Picture This and More, Alton, Il. “By facilitating a gathering of the framing industry, including retailer framers, framing suppliers, educators, the framing industry trade magazine and the framing industry trade association at the framing industry’s only trade show is a strategic direction that will benefit all. The reuniting of the framing industry through this event will help strengthen our industry’s future in the near term and for years to come.

“This combined show will provide the best in education, certification, framing competitions, supplier/framer connections and overall networking opportunities within the framing community,” he adds.

“I am very excited with this announcement,” says Mark Klostermeyer, MCPF, Design Frames, Falls Church, Va., and PMA president-elect. “The framing industry’s only trade association working side by side with the industry’s leading magazine and trade show. The best Convention, education, certification and trade show all in the same city, the same hotel on the same dates. It’s something the industry has wanted and something the industry needs as we prepare for the future.”

Now all we need is free flights!

SSSoooooo they will run at exactly the same time?? And the same place!?! :kaffeetrinker_2:

JPaul, either your chapter leaders have dropped the ball, or you didn't get the memo...

The PRINT & OPEN that your chapter judged back in 2010..... THAT is what will
finally go to the International level.

My concern (or just curiosity) is that now that PPFA in down to only 2 people....

How do they run the show? Especially without the superwoman Sheila? :kaffeetrinker_2:

I talked to Stephanie Monday about that. Watch your mail.

Baer, we never had one in 2010. I still have the leaf print ready to go.

Sorry... you had the local in 2009.... so it would go to the International PMA10.... which I guess is now PMA12 except its not PMA so . . . . :help:

Oh well.... see me in the Frank's Fabric booth..... we might even have my book
out by then. IF it funds.

Not all the chapters held their Leaf Print competitions.

They probably should have.

It IS the leaf Print that will be judged for International in January.

I will try to check on Ohio.

see you ALL there in January!

May I do the Happy Dance now!?!?

Finally can book flights without worrying that I'd miss something. I hate to miss anything!

:icon21:

The best one ever was when both shows were the same week. (a day apart) This is even better! :)

Andy and I will be there

Mike

This is pretty exciting. Should be a very worthwhile and enjoyable endeavor. Now we just have to figure out a way to pack more than 24 hours into a day. It's already hard enough to cram in classes and trade show, and maybe a quick bite of lunch. Hint-hint: how about trade show hours that go past 6:00?
:popc: Rick

It will be great to see Andy! :) (and of course you too Mike)......

This may result in the largest Chinese dinner limo extravaganza yet!

There may have to be a convoy. I don't see how the limos themselves can be any more packed than they were two years ago. It was fun, though.
;) Rick

ANDY IS GOING???? Does he know this?? :D

THIS IS GOING TO BE SOOO FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!

Say goodbye to your honey Mike, he'll be hanging out and shopping with me the whole time!!!!!!!! :D WHOOT!

That works for me. My dance card is usually booked from 8am-11pm. This is why he stopped coming along - he never saw me! :)

A well placed source - - who has a great singing voice but not base.... is 97.983275%
certain that the competition, and PPFA classes will all be on Saturday & Sunday
as to not compete with the vendor show and WC's education.

So if you are booking for both..... You are probably flying in on Friday.... out on
Wednesday night.

I believe Saturday is the day for the chapter leaders' conference. We'll just have to wait for all the details to be published.

I think it's a good development, but time will tell!

Whatever happens it probably won't concern me anyway!

LOVE IT!!! Having both PPFA & WCAF at the same time is great, I'm there. Does anybody know if WCAF will be offering the VIP Pass? Been waiting to sign up for that, takes the pain out of the pay.

Estimated times for some PPFA events

Subject to change the following PPFA events are scheduled as follows:

Chapter Leader Dinner - Saturday; January 28, 2011 at 6pm
All Member Meeting - Sunday; January 29, 2011 at 9am
PPFA Education - Sunday through Wednesday; January 29, 2011 through February 1, 2011

Framing Competition, PPFA booth location and additional information coming soon.

Hopefully this helps from a planning perspective.

I hope as many of you as possible can be there to experience this historic event.

The efforts and cooperation from both PPFA and WCAF leaders have been extraordinary. I believe that this event will mark a new era of leadership and cooperation within the Picture Framing Industry. Come support your industry leaders, listen to what they have to say, support your suppliers and educators and most importantly have fun.

How was PPFA able to do all this with only 2 employees on staff......a lot of volunteers. Join your PPFA chapter and see how you can help too. Watch for significant discounts at the show for PPFA members.

I can drink in class...no problem

I have done that before. It was one of Paul MacFarland's French Lining Classes. As I recall, my lines were the straightest of anyone's in the class. But maybe they just looked that way to me. :)

About PPFA
Serving the art and framing community worldwide, the Professional Picture Framers Association™ (PPFA®) encourages artisans to hone the time-honored skill of custom framing. As the professional trade association for the custom framing industry, PPFA connects frame shops, art galleries, and suppliers to a network of knowledge and support. PPFA, a PMA member association, builds on its 40-year history of establishing best practices for framing, and providing programs and services essential for entrepreneurial success. Through education, certification, business services, industry research, and events, PPFA leads its members to discover, understand, and act on new business opportunities.

Ken Link flew out and joined us for our chapter dinner meeting, a couple nights ago. He was very enthusiastic about the co-location, and about bringing our industry's trade organization "to the framers". (the large and popular WCAF show)

He said that there will be a nice PPFA booth set up, with tables where current and potential members can sit and talk with PPFA members. There will also be some great educational opportunities, and popular choice voting for the framing competition. You'll be able to see entries from all over the world, and pick the one(s) you think are worthy of an award.

PPFA members will be able to sign up for the all-inclusive educational package with a special $20 discount.
