Is the PMA and the PPFA exibitors going to be together in the same hall? Or is the PPFA part seperate. I see little if any framing, art type stuff in my info I've been digging into.

Should we expect little in framing&art suppliers there?

Any experts on this subject?

From what I see the tradeshow has little if any vendors for our industry. It is basically all PMA people. Not even Larson is showing and that says something.

This convention is more than trade exhibits, although the majority are Photo and Imaging related.

But, it is about your trade association.

PPFA business is discussed, your Board is elected and there are many, many educational classes. I often take classes taught by PMA-types and they offer new perspectives and fresh looks.

There are plenty of venues if all you want to do is walk trade show booths. But, if you want to get invoved with your own trade association, this is the one place you can really participate.

I will say that every year a few more framing related exhibitors pop up.

There is a lot more to this show than just exhibitors

There were only a few vendors at the PMA show last year but the education was the best I have seen in seven or eight years of attending trade shows...the education that I'm referring to is not how to frame or cut better mats but how to build your business.

Last year, Rob Markoff hosted a tour of the show floor, pointing out new products and vendors for our industry. I believe he's doing it again this year. (We purchased something after his tour that is a standard in the photography industry, but not used in a typical frame shop that has more than paid for itself over and over again.)

As Bob stated, some of the courses were taught by people outside our industry - and these classes are where we picked up some of our best new ideas.

IMHO, go to Orlando, soak up a little sun and lots of new ideas that will help your business go to the next level. Then go to damp, dreary NYC for a day in March and do your buying.

Another really great thing about the PPFA/PMA show is that they bring in very high calibre speakers. We are going to get to hear Paco Underhill (Why We Buy) and I guarantee that if you go to Bill McCurry's marketing seminar and the others offered, you you will make/save enough extra money to pay for your trip.
