I am finally getting to the plexibox I mentioned through another post. However, I need to know what kind of adhesive is good to use in adhering plexi to itself. It probably needs to be clear and easy to clean if it drips. Right?

Where can I purchase this if it is something esoteric?

Thank you ,

I just went through my files and found that Lois noted Weld-on UPS #3 or #4.

In this case too, where can I buy this?

Sorry, Still ill from mold or allergies.
I have Actifed Head. UGH!

Methylene chloride aka plexi glue or cement. Any plexi supplier should have it, but using it neatly is another matter! It dissolves the plexi where it is applied (brush or syringe) and when it evaporates, the plexi is welded. You'll need clamps or at least tight tape wraps. Use in well ventilated area with face mask - the mold has probably sensitived you to all sorts of irritants! Maybe you should farm this job out...

Peavy:

In the salad days I made my own acrylic boxes, but not anymore. After a while I realized those jobs disrupted the whole shop by covering all the tables for hours with jigs & parts that couldn't be touched. Cutting and edge finishing were done mostly by hand, which was less than perfect. I never did get proficient enough with the solvent-glue to eliminate the tiny bubbles in the seams.

And if anything got scratched I had to start all over again.

Maybe you have a better-than-typical skill level a & shop setup for that kind of work, but for most of us, knowing how to make an acrylic box doesn't mean it's practical to do it in-house.

If I were you, I'd call Lois at Superior. Her business is set up to do it better and more economically than most framers can.

oK. WELL I am going to Austin on Thursday to get more plexi, so I will ask about the glue.

This is a card that is being framed is to be given as a christmas gift. The person giving it has a $65 budget. I am very good at keeping jobs with in the customer's budget.

If I were to send the frame and the card to Lois, Could she? A. have it done and back to me by X-mas and B. be willing to do it for under $65.
(if you can and are willing, Lois, I will take you up on it, but if not ....don't feel pressured)

THe deal is.... the person who the customer is giving this too can afford to go all out on framing and never think twice.

This is a statement job. I dont make anything on this one, but the potential to get jobs that will command more money is very good. ( I am trying to sell the recievee of the frame job, a $8,000 photo that she is Seriously interested in) So...then she'll wanted it framed... catch my drift? AND THIS IS A VERY SMALL TOWN< ONE BAD FRAME JOB AND I AM "M>U>D> mud".

I am very good at getting things right the first time. I can see visual the steps and the end result. So, I am ready to give it a whirl, Ijust want to make sure I have all the right supplies.
