Gain new expertise in picture framing designs and mounting options with the three categories of Direct Contact Overlays described in this book. More than 165 photographs and detailed illustrations provide clear and concise instructions for creation of these innovative, preservation-quality mounts using clear polyester film, fine-mesh fabrics, and acrylic glazing.
All of these float mounting techniques use transparent or nearly-transparent materials to cover, support, and securely attach items within a frame. These non-adhesive techniques are minimally invasive, reversible, low-risk, uncomplicated, and cost effective. They are also framer-friendly, requiring only ordinary framing tools and shop equipment.
DCO mounting may be especially useful in framing a deteriorated, fragile, antique paper or textile, which may be unable to support its own weight or withstand the stresses imposed by traditional mounting methods. DCO mounting is also useful for some three-dimensional objects, such as books, magazines, newspapers, golf balls, and tennis balls.
