Plans for building homemade silent air compressor

like many things..... it's more expensive to buy parts, and build then
it is to just drive over to Tacoma HD and buy one off the shelf,
with a warantee ....

or did you also build your own car?

What brand/model is the "best" silent compressor suitable for use with a CMC?

My wife would be most assuredly thankful.

DIXIE ART carries the Silentair compressors and has good prices and service.
I see that they also now carry the GMC (aka California Air) units, which are quieter than a regular compressor although not silent. They are also substantially less expensive. I have one, as do many other Grumblers. I use it for my v-nailer. I also have a Silentaire on my Wizard.
 Rick

You could also just build a sound insulated box for the compressor.

Silent compressors can be had second hand from dentists' offices. can't have a HomeDepot behemoth kicking in when your nervous child is sitting in the chair can you :) I have an old, old, old one from a dentist's office that served me well for years. Replaced it with the "great little compressor" that we all got for $250.

I know others will chime in and say it was a dud, but I still have mine and it is still running all day every day and is still pretty quiet. (And still has that little air leak that I haven't gotten around to fixing perfectly yet... I know right where it is just haven't put in the replacement hose.....)
