Had my 40 year old EMN12 serviced the other day. Was told I could get a new front guide fence that would also allow me to have a Phenolic fence insert 2-1/4”x2”x1/2 thick in addition to my Phenolic Scrap Support. My question. Would this be a good $300 investment to help eliminate chip out?

Does anyone have this setup and what do you think? My scrap support has helped but I still have chip out issues with some mouldings. And I hate chipped out corners more than cleaning Museum glass!!

Thanks
Tom

who serviced it?
I would say Yes. It will help.

I bought an EMN-12 a few years ago and also replaced the front fence but because it was rusted and gauged. I got the replacement fence from Pistorius before they went under. The Chip Breaker holder was the same on both fences.

If you current fence doesn't have the holder for a Chip Breaker then definitely replace the fence.

There are two parts to the Chip Breaker. First there is the fence insert which sells for $14.25 at Decor. The Chip Breaker itself costs $79.99, also at Decor.

I would definitely buy the fence support - its cheap enough - but if you have the tools, make the Chip Breaker yourself.

Here is one thread on making a Chip Breaker - http://thegrumble.com/showthread.php?56073-Making-new-lower-Chip-Breaker-for-Pistorius&highlight=Pistorius+Chip+Breaker

There may be other threads on this if you do some searching.
