Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have an experience with any of the above models?

With regards to the PILM machine, we had a rather bizarre ‘web chat’ with a sales rep who refused to give any images or video with regards to the product to anyone who are ‘unknown’, which is a shock considering that the machine costs £1800 + VAT!

I would have purchased the Tensador but sadly these are hard to come by in the UK and the only distributor in the UK is no longer stocking this particular model.

The Join Rite, seems to be fine choice (price wise) but I really need assurance from someone who has actually used this model.

I can post urls of both the PILM and Join Rite if the moderators allow this.

Thanks

Welcome to the Grumble.

While I have not used either of the 2 you mentioned, I have used a Tensador II till I replaced it with a Canvas Stretching Machine The Tensador did an OK job, but was awkward to use IMO and required an upgrade to do gallery wraps. With the CSM all work is done from the top so you can easily see the alignment of the canvas.

I am pretty certain that they sell world wide since it sounds as though your not in the USA.

Why not disclose your identity to the company you are asking for information. There are many people around the world in the business of knocking off products and equipment.

There are people on the Grumble that conceal their identity so they can speak candidly without thier customers or competition finding information that could harm the business. Often times it prevents them from getting information they are requesting because it gives the impression it is someone trying to learn from our experience to bypass framing businesses.

Thanks for your input, I was looking at this model yesterday, I've sent the company an email to request for details of an UK distributors that may be stocking this model (Canvas Stretcher 36).

The closest alternative to this in the UK appears to be this model:

Jeff, when I spoke to the representative from PILM the first question I asked was whether they had any other images for this machine, the reponse was that as I was unknown to them they could not provide any further information. The representaive then took my information down and stated that she will get back to me.

edit: I have received more information from PILM regarding their machine (above), it is very similar to the Tensador, but I would prefer something like the Canvas Stretching Machine/Join Rite, as it seems to be easier to work with the canvas when it is flat down.

Only the second photo worked but looks to be the same basic design as Tensador. Not sure of the current exchange rate but price looks similar as well.

Many of the equipment manufacturers rely on distributors to demonstrate and market the equipment used in framing. In the past few years I have had a minimum of twenty five ITW/AMP VN42 users call me and have me talk them through how it functions. I should become a dealer for them since it seems nobody that sells it can explain how it functions.

I believe that many of the equipment manufacturers are under the impression that people only buy this stuff at trade shows or from showrooms. It just illustrates how out of touch the manufacturers are with the picture framing trade.

We have a thread going about a Fletcher 3100 where the owner had multiple discussions with Fletcher and they had no idea what was wrong. As soon as I read the description of the problem I was able to tell the user what was going wrong. If the employees at the manufacturers were required to use the equipment daily it would eliminate many of the problems they have with customer satisfaction. I have purchased used equipment very cheaply because it didn't function due to user error.

Jeff
I’m sorry, I don’t know what the price range is, I just know of the company and that they are based in Ireland.

I also know they will collect people at the airport who fly into Dublin to see the equipment.

It is also unlikely they will communicate here on the Grumble as they were treated rather badly in the past when the got involved in a thread that was running some years ago, in fact I would go to say they were very shocked at the way they were treated, a search of old post may turn up the thread.

Good experience with Join Rite

We have the Join Rite 60" model and love it! It's fast and accurate!
We've gotten excellent service from this company. In my opinion you couldn't go wrong with these folks or their machines.

I agree, due to the limited choices that we have in the UK and lack of information we are left with no alternative but to contact the manufactures directly and in most of the cases the responses are not reassuring.

FYI and close enough to you, you could hop a Ryanair flight to have a look at it, the company are quite close to Dublin airport.

I've sent them an email on Friday, hopefully I might get a response soon.

Goodtwin, is there anything that you dislike about this model. The price difference between the 36" and 60" is reasonable enough to go for the 60" model. How many canvases can you make in an hour, have you had an issues with this model?

We have the 60" model and have had no issues at all. The average canvas takes about 7 or 8 minutes to stretch.
