Imagine if you will...

A series of small canvases mounted in a float frame, roughly 48-inches wide, 12 inches tall.

Artist wants to hang this on the wall using a wire picture hanging rail system (suspended from the ceiling).

Conventional D-ring & wire hanging systems causes the frame to lean out from the wall, and not display flat.

The frame will be displayed on this system for a while, then be relocated to another gallery with a potential different system, then possibly to a private home.

Soooo.... how should we design the back of the frame hangers so the frame will hang as close to vertical as possible?

You might find it hangs better if you put the d-rings not too far above the vertical center, maybe as little as an inch for that size. In that case, you can also tape the wire to the back of the frame near the top since there will not be very much leverage trying to tilt the frame out. Or install 1/8" offsets sideways above the d-rings but near the top of the frame so you can hook the wire under the part of the offset that's floating off the frame.

If you look at the geometry, the wire from the top would be the villain. For flat against the wall, the top of the frame must hang from the wall with d-rings or (better) wall buddies.

1ST. Try the offsets first, install at very top of frame back.

2 ND. You may need to install a lower set of D-Rings and use
two offsets (left & right to overlap each other) each side ,
to secure cable from slipping out. This would be for the
ceiling system only, change when using regular wall mount
system.
