I have been using a local photographer to do what photo restoration I've had come in. They do a superb job. However, I've been averaging at least one a week lately, and am wondering if I should use some other service. Who or what are you doing? I certainly would appreciate your opinions.

Thanks.

Could you be more specific? Now that you're seeing increased volume, what are your concerns about continuing to use this photographer? Is it price? Turnaround time? Reliability? Something else?

We do our photo restoration in-house ourselves...

With Photoshop and a good restoration book, you can do your own.

Take a look at this book:

I learned using an earlier version of this book.

We have that book, too :)

We do some in-house, and send the rest out to DigitalCustom. (which is built into the POS)

Regardless of where it is done, we do all the printing in-house.

We use Hollywood fotofix for the very time consuming orders. Fast turnaround, usually 1-2 days. Excellent work and if you ever need a remake, they do it over no questions asked. We also do our own printing. The color restoration on totally faded prints is amazing.

The reason I'm wondering, Jim,. is that while this photographer is very, very good. (you've be amazed at how they can improve a damaged photo!) and reliable, and the turn-around time has never been a problem (usually 10 days), I'm wondering about the cost.............about $75 for an 8 x 10.

Added note; I just have a normal printer, nothing fancy, so I'd have to buy a new one???

price usually depends on how much time the photographer spends on restoring the image, and how the reprint is printed (paper type).

My two cents: if you like your local restorer, use him/her.

We are local framers. Think about how irate we get when a client goes to someone online because of price, not caring about the quality or customer service they get with a local business.
