I would like to experiment with the Print Guard canvas laminate, but I am not excited about the
investment required just to experiment. I have ordered a roll of the laminate, but is there anyone
that may have a perforator they no longer need or use?

Thanks,

Ron thinks he may have an extra perf tool in his basement but I've got dibs on that one.

In the meantime, I've gotten pretty profficient with a T pin.

I like the linen finish and use it frequently on inexpensive open-edition prints and posters.

Since you've already acquired a roll, it's probably too late to point out that the laminate is also available pre-perforated.

You probably can experiment if you are very careful. We have been successful in doing up to 16 x 20 prints without perforating. The secret is to peel the laminate off the backing and lay it glue side up on your table. This way the laminate is absolutely flat on the table with no bubbles. (If you peel it off and try and then lay it down on the print you definitely need to have it perforated so any bubbles will come out when the laminate contracts or shrinks in the laminating process.)

Then gingerly lay the drymounted print face side down on the laminate lying on the table. Push down on the back of the substrate to get it to lightly adhere to the glue on the laminate. Then put it into the press with foam on top.

Go to your local hardware store and buy a perforator used to punch holes in wallpaper before stripping. Does the same job just as well, and a heck of a lot cheaper.

MitreMan - I tried one of those and the holes it made were too big. The teeth on the wall paper tools are made to tear holes in the paper - they really chewed up the PrintGurad.

Having just relocated from CT to Tehachapi, CA I am still in the throws of unpacking, but I may have a perforator to sell if one is still needed. Hang tight another week, but let me know if you are interrested.

Chris, you're either a better "unpacker" than I am or you're an optimist. I moved two years ago and haven't located my perforator yet.

Welcome to The Grumble. Your reputation precedes you and I hope you'll be a regular here.

Thanks for the offer. For the time being, I am ordering a roll of the perforated film from Superior Moulding. We'll see how it works!

You know that old rule? The one that says if you don't use something for five years (or maybe that's five months) you should get rid of it? I think that's what happened to my perforator.

There's still hope, but it's diminishing. :(
