Would you guys be willing to volunteer the going rate for framers in your area? OR, if anyone knows of any salary surveys relating to framers please let me know. Thanx so much

Same rates that Pogo listed apply in Memphis.
Management: 18-20K annual - beginning
I know a couple of shop managers locally who are in the 70-80k range inc. commission.

That's a very good question. One, I am wondering myself.
Amanda, where are you located?
I just hired a new framer and am starting him at $7.00. He has some experience. I'm located in central PA.

I'm in Reading, Pa. Just up the road from Lancaster.
I have one part timer who has been here five years... she works only one day a week and covers for me on vacation. She's at $8.00 an hour now.
But it was $7 for quite a while. She primarily fits jobs and works with customers. She's moving in the near future and I will miss her dearly. If I am very fortunate I will find someone else I can work with as well as we get along.

I work in a shop in Kansas and make about $10.50 an hour plus, health insurance for myself. I have about 10 yrs experence.

Oh boy, I better learn to love my job again. I truly love what I do but have been unhappy with current management. I'm at a couple bucks more than the previously mentioned wages here in Hawaii. I had no idea what the going rate was. I think love my job a little more now.

Wow, I am very surprised at how low the wages for a framer are. I do framing at home for myself, friends, family, friends of family, etc and I have often thought I would like to do it full time but I sure can't give up my current salary to do it.

$11./hour (Washington DC. area.)
I had heard once that the average rate was $15-$17./hour, where are they?

With a tight economy, I start them at $8.00/hr, and am willing to pay a competent framer $12.00-$14.00. I also have a bonus program where I share a bit of the profit should there be a particularly juicy job that gets done with minimum mistakes and well under the deadline. I do the front counter work myself so there are no commissions.

Amanda,

I think that a number of employers are probably reluctant to talk about wages. Professional and legal edicate tells us that it is not a good idea for groups to band and dicuss such issues as it may be construed as price fixing. It is equally unproffesional for employees to discuss their wages with fellow employees.

Naturally, a few variables will influence wages: 1) Pricing and business procedures do indeed determine what owners can pay. 2) Geographic location and 3)The positive economic situation today has certainly had an impact on wages as well.

I can only state that in our shop, finding good people today is more difficult than at any time in the past 23 years. That in mind, we are currently in the following range:

$8.00 Absolute Minimum start

$10.00 with "Framing Experience"

$12.00 They look good, score well on interviews, have quantifiable experience and We really want this person

$12-15 Management-Long term positions
[/list]
