paper dress

Hi c Hunter and welcome to the G!

I would be really hesitant about doing anything. There's no predicting how the paper or any of the inks will react to heat or moisture. These things weren't designed for their durability.

Best to at least consult with a conservator before doing anything.

Let us know what you find out.

Welcom to the G!

Good for you for reaching out for advice before attempting anything.

If you have no experience with conservation or restoration of irreplaceable items do nothing that may harm it.
You will be responsible if any harm comes to the item.
Research art/paper conservators in your area.
Unless specifically trained in the very particular requirements of conservation/restoration, not many framers would (or should?) attempt something like this.

We be like Doctors................................."First do no harm". Maybe Hippocrates was a framer as his side gig.

Some of those puppies have some value so as the others have said..............................."KEEP YOUR GREASY HANDS OFF IT" (or something like that).

The signs on our shops don't say Conservationists'R Us. We aren't. Leave this to the people who can treat this properly. A quick Googling showed a couple that were as much as 22 Large so unless you want to be liable for a bunch send them to a conservator.
