We had a photographer in the shop this week for some publicity photos. For fun, he took a panoramic of the front room. When spliced together, the photo was 24' full size!

Sized down for the grumble. enjoy!

Great-looking shop, Kirstie. Big! How many framer corners do you have in there? Wow!
Are the framed pieces up high all for sale, or are they models? Or both?

I feel like I'm looking at it from inside a fish bowl.

Glub.

My shop's so small, you wouldn't need a panorama, you can see the entire thing in one shot!

The front room is 50' deep by about 25' wide. Long and narrow. Back room is to the right of the front room and is also 50' deep. Mezannine is above the back room and is a joining and fitting area and office.

We have about 10 people on staff, but we are open 7 days a week, and they all don't work every day. Several are part time. Three custom framers upstairs make up about 2 full timer's hours. We don't hire people as part time because of the training, but after years there we are pretty lenient and let people drop hours if they need to. On any give day, like today, there are 3-5 do-it-yourself framers, including my husband and myself downstairs, and 1-2 custom framers upstairs. Today, actually, there are just 4 of us downstairs. My current full time custom framer works really early hours and leaves before we open. All the big work tables (3)you see are used for the DIY customers. The design table is 2 table at a 90 degree angle. We get a lot of oversize art, and sometimes a lot of people at once.

Anyway, the store really doesn't look like this. These kinds of panorama are distoring, but fun to look at. Here is the real view of the front room.

Val, almost all the art is for sale, including framing samples. All except things like the 2 part glass sample, Digital custom sample, and so on. To give you an idea of scale, that's me by the computer in this shot. The ceiling is 17' high, so it is hard to get light up that high. Hence, we only hang two or sometimes three levels high. The shop is under a garage and was never designed for retail. We have a teeny tiny window space and people are always surprised when they walk in and find this big barn of a place. Here's a back room shot too, while I'm at it. Back room mats and mouldings each have corresponding "shorts" bins for scrap.
