I have a large canvas to stretch and frame with a floater frame. I will be using Omega 80154 that comes in 9' sticks. Since the painting is larger than 9' on the long end, I'm looking for ideas/pictures of how you may have handled the same dilemma.

My thought is to use the approximate 9' length with a straight cut then joining an extension of about 10" with a mitre to give the look of corner caps.

I'm looking for ideas of how to hide the seam and what best methods to reinforce the seam.

Using another floater moulding is NOT an option.

Thanks

Joining wood via a "butt joint" is not very strong. It would be better to cut a long bevel into the wood to extend the glue surface.

or finger join the moulding via using specialty router knives/cutters.

Why?

Joining 2 sticks of moulding is pretty simple. Cut lengths each with opposing 45 angles. ie, cut one regular orientation and 1 "backwards" in saw.
Join with nails, glue and clamp (can use countersunk screws too if profile large enough). Use saw fence or any straight material as guide
Then wood filler, sand and touch up.
Now you can cut frame size.
Canvas will help provide enough support.
