I have a customer that is making his own frame for a map. He needs a mat or maybe adding another piece of wood like a liner. The mat will need to be 80" long, 24" tall. I have seen other framers splice two mats, but my concern is what will happen later, will the splice spread apart?? Any ideas, suggestions???? Thanks for everyones help!!! I learn alot on this site!!!! :D

I haven't had a customer come back yet and complain about one of my spliced oversized mats coming 'unspliced' on them... but then I've only been doing this for 7 years. As long as you join the spliced part together well, you shouldnt have any problems with it.

There is conservation quality board made that is 48" X 96" of 60" X 104" in an off white shade. Small Corp., Conservation Resources International, and other wholesalers have these boards. The only problem may be finding it,
since you will not need a full case.

DonMar carries "monster mats" 48"x96" in black, white and I believe 2 or 3 other colors. They are available in single sheets. DonMar's telephone # is 800-556-7428 (in Massachussetts).
