Ok, here's a toughie.

Customer has an antique family portrait that was framed in in oval frame. ~14x20

It must have been framed with convex glass because of the convex nature of the print (we just have the print, not any hardware / backing or frame.

So the tough part is, the lower 3rd of the image has buckled in the other direction. I"m concerned that If I try and reframe this on a convex frame that bending the paper back will risk damaging it.

Any ideas / yips / methods? run?

Thanks
James

This would be great for reproduction, but I'm looking for information in repair restoring the original convex print. Restoration and convex prints seem to be two different heading here.

You could always make your customer a new one by doing some digital photo restoration. It is a little tricky because you are scanning something more or less 3d into 2d. Make sure that if you do that, you have it made into a size that fits a standard oval frame (which is close to what you described), if you are keeping it in oval. If you do a rectangular frame with an oval mat, it's much easier. The convex glasss is available too if you go the oval route.

Lots of convex photo projects lately.

I'd be happy to help you if you decide to convert to 2D and restore the image. PM me if interested and I can get you more information.
