Orange peel?

In my thread about dry mounting a few of you mentioned orange peel. I hate to sound so stupid, but what is that?

A lot of the time when you drymount to foamboard, there are hidden pits and indentions in the board. You may not see them before you drymount your item, but after mounting your item, when you look at your photo or print, it appears dimpled like the surface of an orange. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but always irritating.

Like JWB said the whole surface of the print is textured like an orange peel. Using a perfectly smooth board over the piece in the press will avoid it. I use heat activated FC and lay release paper on top and then a smooth mat board, suface paper side down to prevent it.

Try Kool Tack with their Perma Lon sheet. This will eliminate the orange peel.
