Hello. What is your opinion of dealing with Omega Moulding? Quality? Quantity? Pricing?, etc. I use to deal with them several years ago (about 1997), but moulding quality was was going downhill drastically, so i stopped stocking their moulding. I remember the Nick Silvo, the salesman, and i heard he was still with Omega Mldg.

Thanks.

Been with them about 4-5 yrs and am real happy

Heard in the old days they had some problems but we haven't seen any personally. We get 2-3 shipments a week and our in stock program is about 70% Omega

If you carry Poly frames they have a great selection

We like them. Started because one of the best reps in the biz, Tom Braddock, serviced our acct. He has since moved to Texas. Out of stocks are almost unheard of

Jerry-May I ask how long ago you had your problems? I can't believe it's just us they treat well

Completely the opposite experience than Jerry here. They are a significant part of my product mix. You have to know what is a "good" line from a "bad" line (from them) and having a good rep to help you sort out the two is very important. I have had some bad experiences with some of their product line, but if you steer clear of those lines (and probably the factories that made them) you should be very happy. My rep(s) have told me which lines have been problematic (and have been very forthcoming with me).

Many years (7-10) ago I had nothing but trouble with them, but that has completely changed.

Fortunately, we have a good rep as was our prior rep. We are in contact via phone on a regular basis and if we ned to see him he is usually here the next day. The quality of what we have received in the past few years has been nothing short of excellent and the pricing is fantastic.

In the last job we ran, we were 10' short of completion of a large production run due to some defects that weren't marked on the sticks and the rep had another 10 feet to us the next day. Since they ship to us from the LA area we get the moulding usually the next day.

The "perceived" value of much of the product we buy from Omega is significantly greater than what we pay for it, so a moulding that costs $1 - $1.50 is easily sold at "retail" for $12-$15 per foot with no questions.

In today's economy it would be hard for me to compete in the commercial/contract field without Omega.

What Bob and Rob said. I don't have a lot of Omega on my wall, but everything I have looks nice and is priced very competitively. I've had no problems with the quality of the sticks that come in, and I've had no service problems at all.

I consider them one of the better in the business. Great service, great product, good prices. Like PaulSF I don't have much on the wall, I've been very selective with the corners from them, but what I have sells good and I get good service.

About 10 years ago, I pulled all their samples from the wall because of quality issues. The last straw was when I ordered 100' of a profile. The finish was so bad that I could probably get 2 11/x14's from it. I called my rep and it was replaced. Same thing. A different rep visited about 3 years ago, and assured me that quality had drastically improved, so I tried them again. The moulding has been flawless, and they are now my #2 supplier. They have given me great incentives to sell their moulding.

I carry lots of Omega. Have a great rep (Maija), excellent service, fast response, great selection and value. I would recommend them. Any issues have been resolved quickly.

I've been using Omega moulding for about 3 years now. They are one of my prefered suppliers. I have fewer boxes / chops arrive damaged than from most vendors. My sales rep (Nick Soho, as you mentioned) has always been helpful and is QUITE proactive with maintaining competitive pricing. The number of Omega mouldings that I stock has increased in the last 2 years.

They used to be my # 1 moulding supplier before I dropped them 3 years ago for exactly the same reason Jerry mentioned: They dropped off my length shipment for a REALLY rush job at another frame shop in ANOTHER town and neither their customer service, nor my rep couldn't care a rip ("couldn't you drive over and pick it up" they told me!!! And that was not the only major mishap but was the final one).

I am about to start carrying some of their mouldings again and give them another try.

I understand some of these issues and have had problems in the past, but I have a great rep and buy selected profiles from them. No CS issues because of the rep.

Some product is way overpriced, some a great value.

I'd give them a try if you're on the fence.

We purchased selected boxes of overstocks at WCAF --about .50 pf--and have been pleasantly surprised with the quality. I added them all into my value line at $6pf and they are selling nicely. Next year I'll buy more if they are offering these deals.

Jerry-May I ask how long ago you had your problems? I can't believe it's just us they treat well

I dropped them about 3 years ago I think. Maybe 4, time flies. It was not long after they opened the Tennessee distribution center.

It would literally take a week and a half to get your order and the shipping would be more than you paid for the product.

I am happy to hear all the great service you guys get. We didn't.

I can round you up some more unhappy framers if you need to hear more negative.

I would bet that most all of them are in NC, SC and TN

We have so many other great alternatives in our neck of the woods to put up with poor treatment.

For anyone looking for a value line, check out Framerica. Hands down best value line available.

Omega gets a thumbs up from me. Never had any problems - nice line, better than average quality - for some items quite excellent.

I buy length and that works fine - my only caution would be if you buy chop or join as I think their pricing for those services is higher than most (markup to chop/join vs. length).

My length comes from the Tenn dist. center and I've had no problems with the quality. I'll have to admit that they dont usually ship on the day I request, even if I am told they will. And I had a bad experience at Xmas. Several orders were not able to be completed by then because the warehouse was so back logged and I didnt get the order until a week after Xmas. I placed that order in plenty of time. I blew a gasket and was offered an additional discount on the order. That smoothed the waters and my customers were understanding.

I use them as my #1.
Occasionally there is a problem, poor chop or poor quality finish, but they have always taken care of it, including overnighting me a frame that the finish was rubbing off on. The cut form / order told the chopper to test the sticks for finish problems before they cut them.

Just a good middle of the road moulding company good for most customers. They have some VERY nice frames for the price.

It's all good!

We have been using Omega for 2+ years now. The amount of warped and substandard finishes is less than my other suppliers. Our rep Bob, or "Omega Bob" as we call him doesn't come around all that much, but he is on the phone to us frequently. If anything goes wrong, he is on the phone right away and we usually have any replacements in our hands the next day. That being said, I have never had good service from their New York CSR's. Whenever I have had a problem, I contact my rep with no problems.

Greetings. I just got to this forum. My store is in Anaheim Hills, CA. At least it was still there yesterday.

Many years ago I used to laugh whenever I saw the "Omega Man" coming. The guy looked like a used car salesman and about as sleezy as they come. Omega moulding had a tendency to fall apart while the frame was hanging on the wall. Worse if it was exposed to direct sunlight. IMHO it was just about the worst #### available. Recently we had been selling SOME very select Omega but that was mainly because my wife felt sorry for the sales rep who lost her job with another vendor and was having serious financial problems. Maybe not all of their moulding is all that bad any more but I'm not willing to take a chance with my customers.

Good selection. Prices are ok. Quality is ok.

We had a discount with them, and one day when we placed an order, I found out when the bill came in that the discount was dropped, without notice. ...and soon after another frame shop (all but) dropped them, without notice.

I still have some samples of unique products from them, because they do have some unique frames, though some of the most unique are becoming discontinued.

Since we're getting better discounts from a number of our other suppliers, and they don't surprise us by dropping it, they are getting our business in return.

I have a bad taste in my mouth from Omega from years ago. They couldn't do anything right it seemed. I have a good rep, and I understand that the product has improved. I agreed to get a catalog and rethink my position...like I said, a good rep. They billed me for the catalog. Catalog is now in the shredder/landfill. Between them and Decor I don't know who is going to get world's worst customer service award. I wish it wasn't the case, but each time I try to do something with Omega, something goes wrong. Just too many other options to have to keep testing those waters.

If you are a length buyer, Omega should be your #1 company to look at. Back in the 70's and 80's I had issues with them but 5+ years ago I tried them again and was pleased with everything I bought. They are working at getting it right the 1st time. Their QC has been as good as anyone's I've seen in years. They account for 50 - 60 % of my moulding sales and growing.

They have IMHO the best value on length of anybody. Others just have CHEAP.

No question, plenty of options. Sometimes these relationships are like being married: Man is married to woman and it's dasastrous; woman remarries and it's paradise

Find whomever satisfies you

One thing for certain. Mention any mfgr selling moulding and someone will tell you a horror story

We like them and just do not see the problems posted

But, I'm married to someone that is paradise for me

And, I'm pretty darn picky and no day at the beach

They are a great company. Like any supplier some products are better than others, the deals they offer make it very attractive to stock thier product, like someone else said the mark up you can get is much more profitable than most suppliers, most of the moulding I get from them is $1-$3 per foot and I sell it for $12-$30 per foot because it still looks good My rep Travis M. takes great care of me and I've never had issues with customer service

I, too, give the thumbs up to Omega. We have a great rep (Hi, John Matero!) who bent over backwards for us after our fire last year. (Has it been a year already?)
Since we are ready to move back into our now-repaired shop, having been in a temporary location while renovations were made to the burnt-out location, John has offered to get us the DEEPEST discounts he can get from the "front office" on length when we move back in.
Omega is a great company. No question. Not from me.

While Omega is not, of course, the only vendor to pursue this activity, they are the subject of THIS thread. So here's my $.02......
:soapbox:
I have only purchased omega products(knowingly) 2x, and that was thru another vendor's resell (they didn't take the O-stickers off). Was satisfied with the product but not with their "we wont even talk with you about our products unless you join our club(their words not mine, when I tried to get info about the frames I eventually purchased--they were 'to match' frames )".
I am extremely bothered by the fact that they have knowingly carried/sold & continue to carry/sell(to those of us who aren't "IN THE KNOW") these 'BAD' lines(someone is buying them or they would not still be in inventory!). We, the prospective consumers, cannot KNOW which is which(BEFORE we buy/get delivery) unless we happen to have the assistance of a honest/reliable rep(congrats on that one!). THAT brings the question of just WHY I should need the services of a great rep if the company is taking care of business and selling 'good stuff' all the time(obviously everyone will have problems at sometime-but they shouldn't make it an everyday occurance). I'm bothered that Omega doesn't have the smarts to either force their 'lesser' manufacturers to correct their product(and inform us buyers of these known problems BEFORE the sale), do something to bolster/change their QC, &/or drop those manufacturers like the proverbial hot rock and eliminate the problem lines altogether! Continuing to sell bad product make little business sense & shouldn't be acceptable to the industry and is only reinforcing/endorsing the fact that 'they' don't need to produce/sell good quality product. That any vendor that would continue to pursue this way of 'doing business' speaks VOLUMES about their lack of concern for YOU, the end user. :bdh:
