I just bought a big (I believe) Japanese scroll from a client getting divorced. Please excuse the UGLY frame and mat. All I did originally was replace a broken glass with uv plexi.
Anyway! This is a good size piece. The image size 26 x 50 inches.
It looks to have been Painted then cut into 1/8 in strips and woven back together with strips of white paper to create a ghost like image. Just the head and feet were painted after it was woven.
Does anyone recognize the artist, country, or wager a guess to value. Is this a common piece and I've just not see one before?
It is not new. My wild guess is 100+ years old +-50 years from the condition of the silk boarder around it.
Thanks,
framer
