Allow me a moment of lead up...I took on a rush job. Stupid, stupid, stupid...I'm swamped. So, it's promised for tomorrow AM, frame arrives at 2:30. Busy, busy, busy all afternoon. Double opening in a double mat. two different color mats in the bottom reveals. No time to get to it by closing. Husband hurt his back at work, got to get home with dinner. No problem...I'll fly to the local farmstand. Head home, remember I have to provide snack for daughter's class tomorrow. And there is a field trip I am driving for. Head back to town to buy supplies for the yogurt sundaes I promised daughter we would make. Get home, do dinner, assemble 36 individual yogurt and fresh fruit sundaes. Get daughter settled and off to sleep, then head back to work for 10pm. Finish a few small projects to warm up before diving into rush job. Mat cutting does not go well. After third attempt, have a very nearly perfect mat...except for one small problem. Lots of small black marks showing on bevel of one of bottom mats. Pencil lines? nooooooo....the printing on the back of the artcare board that indicates the color # is running directly along the bevel line! Back to the drawing board. Will I think twice before I accept another rush job when I'm already too busy? probably not.

Diane, I wish I had a nickel for every time I've ever said that to myself over the years. And I still do it!

That's why I'm still here at the shop at 11:07 PM!!

We never learn........:faintthud:

Diane - sometimes a kwik swipe of sandpaper on the back of the bevel will eliminate those annoying specks - good luck!!!

Be thankful you are busy - my entire month of May has been deader than a door nail!!!

Diane, I only wish I had to stay late. Stop bragging :)

An industrial diamond nail file (Revlon or Diamond Deb) is most useful for
softening the sharp edge on windows that cutting the mat board creates.

trust me, I tried filing it first with superfine grit sandpaper. The printing was particularly dark and the line of printing was cut up one entire side of the opening, straight through the middle of the line of printing. There was no way out of this one. And now I'm running on 3 hours of sleep..but amazingly enough I am in fine spirits...in spite of the fact that the order I completed at midnight for first thing this AM, for a birthday gift, is still sitting here waiting to be picked up. But I bet you all guessed that already!

I feel your pain Diane. I was in here pulling my hair out a couple months ago working on this humongous picture with 16, count them, 16 openings. It was ridiculous what I put myself through for a $400 job. She only gave me 3 days to get it done and I took it on knowing full well I had a very busy week. I just hate to say no. Happily this particular customer just came back with another similar order. I made her give me a week to do it. It is for a church and when I think of all the cursing I did on the other one....................gotta send this one out with good vibes.
