Help! I seem to love to do this to myself. I designed a nice small 8 x 10 piece for a customer with a bevel accent - no problem. The moulding is 5/8" wide and not much deeper - so the package is thicker than the moulding. My problem: the d@mn offset clips are too wide for the moulding and I am trying to figure out another method of securing the package in the moulding.

Any quick fixes here? Gees... I hate when I do this!

You could clip the edges of the offsets with a sheet metal cutter (takes a little forearm juice, but you can do it, I have faith - buy good ones). You could also use that grey Linco frame sealing tape and nothing else - double it up and it should work for something that small - but that may not last forever. That's it, two lame options are the limit of my brain right now.

Roz,

Rabbet space usually solves this problem. If, for some reason you really want to use those offset clips, you can sometimes grind down the ends enough to make em work.

Flexible Multi-points.

That solved the problem. Pushed them into the mounting board. They were just the right size. It's a small lightweight piece and should stand the test of time with the dustcover in place. If not - it's for a friend - she'll let me know and I'll fix it!

Meantime - I'll have to order some rabbet space in for future work.

Thanks for you input. Doug and Canton Joe!

When the materials extend less than 1/8 inch I have used the infinity hangers with much success. They come with screws in black or brass and are good for many misc uses. I met the inventor at NY Expo a few years back and he demonstrated many uses. United sells them.

You might want to see this thread:
To Infinity and Beyond , sounds like they are being discontinued.

That was going to be my suggestion.....Infinity hangers! Do read the thread j Paul mentioned.

Has anyone bought the equipment to produce those Infinity Hangers yet???

If the package isn't too much thicker, you can cut a bevel off the edge of the foamcore and then shoot the points in on an angle. Then tape over the ends of the points so they don't poke thru the back paper.

I just had the same problem with an old convex photo I framed being deeper than the rabbet. I was thinking of cutting offset clips and drilling new holes. Then I read this thread and liked the idea of using points from Framah. But I did it just a little different.

I have the flexi-points and I shot them into the back of the moulding straight down (vertically) at the edge of the board. Then I just bent them over to hold the boards in place. Very easy and fast. Love it!
