Question for those of you who sell at off site venues where there are no phone lines. What system do you use for approval and processing of credit card transactions.?

We sell off site at Hotels, etc where our cc operates just like it does at the store using the local land lines. We have an opportunity to participate in several art venues where there are no land lines and we don't know how to have credit card purchases handled. We don't want to use the old hand operated hard copies and then manually enter them when we get back to the store for obvious reasons, so what do we look for that will work with cell phones or ???? What do you use ? Where do we began to find out what to do? This is all new to us technolgy challenged oldsters.

Thanks..PM if you want with specifics.

Does your CC processor have a online Virtual Terminal app? You could use that with your smartphone.

If you use paypal as your CC processor, there is a smartphone paypal app.

Although I don't know anything about them , there are CC terminals that can be used with your phone.

See what your CC processor has available. If they are on the ball at all, they will have something as this is not anything new.

Check out Square. 2.75% for all cards with no monthly nothing and runs off your smartphone. Equipment is free (not the phone) and you can sign up on line to get the unit.

Square gets very good reviews. It must be pretty good since Visa bought stock in the company.

SquareUp.com

From what I hear, it is a good idea to keep a spare swipe card reader on hand because they are relatively fragile. You can get them for less than $10 at Radio Shack and other local retailers

Thanks for the tip Rick.

I was kind of amazed that they didn't make it so it could be on a lanyard or keyring.

Sometimes it's just the tiny details that make things go from OK, to must have.

I ordered a square this afternoon... the phone to go with it comes tomorrow.....
now back to building the e-store....

That's great information. Just what I was looking for. Grumblers come thru again.

I have switched completely over to Square. Used it for the month of December before canceling my landline service provider. Square is awesome.

John,
If you don't mind sharing your experience with Square, I have a few questions:
1. What device are you using? iPhone, iPad, Ipod, android phone?
2. are the clients comfortable signing with their finger or do you use a stylus?
3. Do you find it hard to use the card swipper? I sometimes have to swipe several times (during my testing) for it to read the card.

Regards,
Troy

Troy,
I am using an I-phone
Clients are comfortable signing with their finger (100%)
The card swiper is no problem... You have to swipe quickly.

I go to a coffee shop that uses this, very easy, receipts are emailed if desired.
