I was just listening to a local radio ad who talked about

"why do you want to go to someone just sells plants at the hardware store instead of" ....

this ad was produced on behalf of a Local Independent Garden Store. A larger independent gardening/landscape store, but still competing with Home Depot.

It is a small(er) and tough(er) world all around than we want to think of all the David's vs Goliath's in the business world.

I'll always patronize smaller owner operated businesses whenever possible and not just because I am one.

My local grocer doesn't have the selection of produce I desire, but his meats are the best and usually less expensive than the major chains. I know everyone that works there including...

The local herb garden store's owner supplements her income by working the local grocery store too. When I shop her garden center I get great advice, unusual varieties and often pay less than the mega garden center near by who sold me musk melons but the non-English speaking workers must have mislabeled them because they grew into acorn squash. My tomato varieties weren't what they were labeled either!

Smaller businesses have more passion for what they do. IMHO

I have been listening to a radio ad that is for an independent furniture store - it states:

Sue, don't tell me you went to the Big Box Store! Don't you know that _________ has better quality, customer service, selection, etc. Please don't tell me you went to the Big Box store!
