Here's a project we installed today at a corporate location.

The first is 45 x 107 and consists of 21- 14" x 14" ceramic tiles that were hand carved, fired, and then glazed in colors selected by the client. They have a 1/2" piece of ply with blackened edges glued to the back and z bar with a security "t" lock at the bottom of each piece.

The second is for the same office in a different location. Again, 14 x 14" tiles and the same installation procedure.

Art that does not require framing is now a significant part of our business.

Barbara is teaching a class at the WCAF Expo called, Thinking Outside the Frame and covers this very topic.

Very cool, Rob. Thanks for sharing.

How did you get them perfectly straight when they are wavy tiles!!!
EEEKKKK ! That would be a nightmare job!

Looks AWESOME!!!

Very carefully.........:)

There is a 12"x12"x 1/2" piece of birch plywood (with blackened edges) glued to the back with a construction adhesive. We use a jig that allows the mating piece of z-bar to be installed a specific distance from the bottom of all the tiles and very uniformly so we have a known distance and can evenly space the distance between the rows. The z-bar is installed using 1/2" screws - with the thickness of the z-bar and the construction adhesive supplying enough separation so we do not come through the wood.
