Not the first time you have heard this I am sure. I calibrated my saw. Now I need to sand the lengths down to get perfect miters before nailing them. When I put the lengths in a clamp I see open corners. How do I know which length to sand? Open corners on the outside - which length do I sand? Open corners on the inside - Which length do I sand. Any web sources for fixing common mistakes? Any suggestions on a good sander? Thanks for any help or advice.:bdh:

If your saw is calibrated, you did not need to do any sanding. This sounds like your calibration is still slightly off.

As far as sanding - you sand all 8 surfaces.

Your saw is not properly calibrated. Sanding is a way to correct that problem, but if your sander were calibrated like your saw, you'd still have the same problem. I suggest you fix the saw's calibration.

What kind of saw do you have? If it is a single miter saw, maybe its angle stop-template maintains accurate angles in both directions from zero. In that case, if one end of the wood is mitered wrong, so is the other end -- and by the same amount. The important thing is to make that stop-template align perfectly with the vertical back-plate on your saw.

If you have a double miter saw, then call an expert. Those things could be misaligned in several directions, and calibrating one is a major task even for someone who knows how to do it.
