My old vise has finally had it. Time for something new

Anyone out there find a good strap clamp or a vise that they love?

Something interesting:
Looking around today I found a corner clamp by a company called FrameCO. (FrameCo Corner clamp)
It says that it has some sort of feature that forces the joints together better. It does look different than the other ones I am used to seeing.

Thanks
Steven

I think every shop should have, as a bare minimum, something similar to the old cast-iron Stanley vise.

It doesn't have to be Stanley. United and others have some nice ones for a lot less money. But that's the style you want.

I have a Kwik-Clamp (at least, I think that's what it is) that puts a lot of pressure on the corner and clamps with a foot pedal so you can use both hands to hold the two rails. It's roughly the size and weight of my Honda van.

Strap clamps are very handy for some situations but wouldn't be my first choice for a primary joiner.

Some will tell you that you just HAVE to get an underpinner, but get the Stanley (or equivalent) first.

Like Ron, I have the Stanley type and use it as a backup to a vise I got from Frame Specialties Inc. out of Elkart Indiana. I believe they call it a "Bulldog". I really like it over the Stanley type. Very easy and quick to use.....highly recommend.

Jorgenson a couple of years ago came out with a belt vise with nice cheap plastic corners.

HD or Slowes should have it. About $19. We have two.

Great for those real tall stems in maple that you can only underpin with 3/16" pins... pull together the top 4" and set aside for the night.

Just a thought.... steven, how do you wearout a vise? The one in my woodshop was my grandfathers and I beat on it all the time... :D

Who says you can't beat a good vice.

Baer- it is because I did not pay as much for it as I should have. It was used and just out of alignment now and just is not solid as it used ot be
