New Valiani MatStylus on YouTube

I saw the demonstrations in Las Vegas and can't wait until it arrives! Are you still expecting to ship in April?

As a calligrapher, I plan to have some fun creating scrolls and embellishments in Corel Draw, and then inscribing them on mats. Mind-boggling technology, it is.

Burning questions...

1. Can I use my old Rapidograph drafting-quality pens with good pigmented inks? I would hesitate to use the common metallic shake-up pens on a mat, due to light sensitivity of the inks. Off gassing might be an issue, as well, for preservation framing.

2. How precise is control of the downward pressure on the pen? Should I be concerned about damaging fragile, costly pen nibs?

3. I'm guessing this will not work with a standard ruling pen, right? Using any pen with an open ink reservoir, I envision the quick motions of the driving mechanism flinging ink all over the mat.

What kind of ink is used in that plotter pen? It looks like it has amazing capabilities.
 Rick
P.S. I think your assessment of the ruling pen situation is probably right on. Plus, the ink capacity would be too small for all but the smallest mats. I think the proper pen/ink pairing would be the key thing about exploiting this technology to its maximum. I'm not crazy about the look (or longevity) of marker lines.
