Hello,
I'm new to the Grumble but I have been observing this site for the last week. I'm glad I found it. I'm new to the framing industry and still setting up shop. In doing so, I am looking for a dry mount press. Anyone have some good advice? I have been looking at the Seal Masterpiece 500. Is that a good unit to start with and where can I find some at a reasonable price. I look forward to talking to you all.
Thanks,
Little Mat

Welcome to the Grumble, Little Mat! I have been using a Masterpiece 500 for over 20 years and I love it - it has no size limitations and yet it doesn't take up a whole bench of its own.

I can't offer you any tips on where to find one in Canada but I know they have been found on ebay and they are also privately sold from existing (or soon to be not-existing) frame shops. I know you could buy one new from United, but the freight to Canada would probably bankrupt you!!!

Good luck in your new venture!

Little Mat, welcome to The Grumble, and thanks for introducing yourself. I have an old one that needs repair, it's also geographically undesirable for you, unless you have friends who live in San Diego and are planing on driving up there or some such thing. It would probably cost a few hundred to get it working right. If your interested, let me know.

Hey Little Mat,

Welcome to The Grumble.

We’ve been using our Masterpiece 500T for 19 years with out any problems (except that the thermostat goes wacky every 7 or 8 years – but that’s easy to change).

The unit weighs a ton (or is that tonne in Canada?), so if you can pick up the press on your own, you’ll save a bundle of money on shipping.

Don't listen to Hannah, the desert heat has fried her brain! ;)
