When we were in Atlanta we visited the Bienfang booth. They were introducing a new dry mount machine that uses heat rollers. The machine looked interesting. Apparently the speed of the rollers regulates how much heat is applied to the artwork as it moves through the machine. Although you are limited by the width of the machine, there is no limit to the length so it would be good for the large door size posters and such.

We are wondering if anyone has used this type of machine and if they are happy with the results.

Case in point -

when the rollers start to grab the foam board and poster does the poster ever move? If so can you stop the process in time?

what types of art/prints/paper have you tried? Successes and Failures would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Jeanne, I use a fairly large version of these type of machine and would not be without it, my presses etc are now gathering dust but do somtimes get used. For mounting and laminating posters they are fantastic, we also make billboard panels and I can't think how it would be done without one of these.

Lengths are limited by space and the size of the rolls of product available - although this is not likely to cause any concern for the regualar frame shop (and you can do a single run long enough to wrap a building...).

To address your kwestions, once you've started there is not really an option for "going back", stuck is stuck and stuck it will be. One problem with posters can be when they have been hanging from the corners and there is a "sag" in the centre, tricky to get them right but once you've figured it out it will probably not be an issue again.

If it is paper then it will work, if it is synthetic it will work, if you want to mount fabric, it will also work.

Along with my CMC, this machine is one that I would not open a frame shop without.
